On September 8th, 2023, Airports Authority of Trinidad and Tobago (“the Authority”) embarked on a meaningful journey in celebration of International Literacy Day. With the goal of making a positive impact on our society, we initiated a book drive that invited all staff members to participate by contributing their used or gently used books. Today, we are thrilled to share the incredible success of this heart-warming endeavour.
The response from our dedicated team was nothing short of remarkable. From the moment we announced the book drive, we witnessed a surge of enthusiasm and generosity that truly reflect the spirit of our organization. The sight of employees arriving with bags of books, each filled with knowledge, stories, and imagination, was a heartening testament to our commitment to fostering literacy in our community.
Our collective efforts bore fruit, and we managed to gather a diverse collection of books, spanning various genres and age groups. These books have found new homes in institutions that will greatly benefit from our donations. The books were distributed to the St. Helena Presbyterian Primary School, Cunupia Secondary School, and the Trinidad Women’s Prison, making a positive difference in the lives of students and inmates alike.
But our mission does not end here. We plan to extend our generosity to the Pine Haven Children’s Home, where young minds await the magic of books. Additionally, we are excited to announce that we will be contributing to the St. Helena Nalis Public Library, enriching the resources available to the wider community.
None of this would have been possible without the unwavering support and commitment of our incredible staff members.
As we reflect on this accomplishment, let us remember that the power of books extends far beyond the pages. They have the ability to inspire, educate, and transform lives. Through our book drive, we have not only shared books but also the love of reading, opening doors to new opportunities and horizons for those in need.
