AATT hosts fun day for children with cancer

Airports Authority of Trinidad and Tobago (“the Authority”) partnered with the Just Because Foundation to host an aviation treat themed “Flight for Cancer” for the benefit of children who have been diagnosed with cancer on Saturday 21st July, 2018 at the Executive Jet Centre, South Terminal, Piarco International Airport.

The Just Because Foundation is a non-profit charitable organization founded by Noel and Chevaughn Joseph and provides care and support for children with cancer. The Authority is pleased to have joined with the JB foundation in their mission to create awareness and promote wellness for Childhood Cancer Patients.

The children, their siblings and parents were welcomed to the airport by popular media personality Nikki Crosby and were treated to entertainment, games, prizes and give aways. The highlight of the occasion was the opportunity for the children to tour small aircraft, sit in the cockpits and take photos. They were made honorary junior airline pilots for the day.

General Manager of the Authority, Mr Hayden Newton, believes that it is the Authority’s responsibility to give back and gives his commitment that the Authority will continue with altruistic efforts such as this. This initiative was the brainchild of Former Airport Manager and Chairman of the Authority and pilot, Mr Trevor Benjamin, who has a passion for aviation and uses it to give joy and hope to all children.

President and Co-Founder Mrs. Chevaughn Joseph said “We are always pleased to have corporate partners who understand the importance of using innovative ideas to make our childhood cancer patients happy.

The shouting, dancing, smiles and laughter were clear signs that the patients and their siblings thoroughly enjoyed every moment of the event. For most of the kids it was a first time opportunity to see aircraft up close and meeting and having fun with Aunty Nikki made the day even more awesome. We are very grateful to Mr. Hayden Newton, Mr. Trevor Benjamin and the Airports Authority’s team for making this amazing experience possible. Keep flying high!”

The Authority wishes to thank the Signature Flight Services and Trinidad and Tobago Air Guard for their unhesitant willingness to assist in making this event a success. Appreciation is also extended to the airline JetBlue for their donations.

Airports Authority of Trinidad and Tobago (“the Authority”) remains committed to fulfilling its corporate social responsibility and contributing the worthy causes such as this.
