Buccoo Reef

Ranked the 3rd spectacular sight to behold in the world by French oceanographer and explorer, Jacques Cousteau, Buccoo Reef is located off the southwestern coast of Tobago. Declared a Marine Protected Area in 1973, it boasts of being the largest fringing coral reef in the world. Visitors enjoy a glass bottom boat trip to the reef and are given the opportunity to snorkel where they can get voluntarily trapped in the reef’s awe- inspiring, colourful, underwater world inhabited by 119 species of fish and corals mainly of the Monstastrea species. The trip is almost always concluded by a visit to No Man’s Land. Unfortunately, due to climate change, causing a rise of sea levels and temperature, the reef has become endangered, therefore, hopeful visitors must hurry in order to catch a glance of its beauty.
