Caroni Bird Sanctuary

The Caroni Bird Sanctuary is a sight for those who love the thrill of experiencing wildlife. Located in the Caroni Swamp, the scene that flaunts the heart of Trinidadian wildlife, is saturated with the beat of fluttering wings of over 100 species of birds, inclusive of the national bird, the Scarlet Ibis. One can take a tour on the gentle Caroni river to engage aural and visual senses as they follow the flocks overhead like a graceful, scarlet cloud to their rest at the mangroves while encountering exciting fauna “bajohns” like caimans, crabs and swamp boas.
