Fort King George Heritage Park

Fort George serves as a captivating look into the colonial history of Tobago, perfect for history enthusiasts and simply curious persons. It is located in the city of Scarborough which is the main city in Tobago. The fort has carried multiple names throughout its lifetime. In 1784, the French commenced the building of the fort with its original name being Fort Castries and in 1789, it was renamed “Fort Republique” and “Fort Liberte” in 1790 when the garrison had revolted. The British recaptured Tobago and therefore the fort in 1793 and hence, its most famous name ‘Fort King George’ was given after the British king at the time, King George ।।।. The attraction has been finally renamed to the Fort King George Heritage Park. Visitors get to enjoy the sight of 16th century batteries, canons and numerous forts giving them a blast into the past.
